Synapse: The neuroscience symposium series
The annual Synapse virtual symposium series initiated by IISER Tirupati in 2020. This year, Synapse is jointly organized by IISER Tirupati and IISER Thiruvananthapuram and brings together a diverse assortment of neuroscientists from India and across the world. Neuroscience, despite being a young field, is one of the fastest-emerging interdisciplinary areas of science which allows scientists across different fields to work together. Symposia and conferences in this field are especially important in the Indian sub-continent, where established neuroscience researchers are very few in number, and conferences in specialized areas of neuroscience research are not frequently organized. This virtual symposium therefore aims to bring people together on one platform, and increase scope for networking and visibility of neuroscience/neurobiology researchers.
Synapse 2020
In Synapse 2020, which was organized online by IISER Tirupati in the midst of the country-wide lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we introduced speakers who elaborated on their research in a wide variety of research areas such as the neurobiology of stress, neuronal cytoskeletal research, understanding neural circuits, how reward guides action, and the neuroscience of olfaction. Through Synapse, we organized stimulating talks on current trends in neuroscience in India and across the world.
