Abstract:

 DNA and RNA secondary structures play key regulatory roles in biological system. Targeting these secondary structures by small molecules would lead to new therapeutic strategies. In this talk, recent work on Target Directed Synthetic (TDS) approaches using DNA and RNA secondary structures like G-quadruplex, i-motifs and HIV-1 TAR RNA as templates to synthesize their own molecule binders, heteroaromatic compounds would be discussed. Towards the end, the development of new methods for the synthesis of nitrogen containing heterocycles will also be briefed.

Bio-Sketch of the speaker:

Jyotirmayee Dash obtained her MSc from Ravenshaw University, Cuttack and PhD from IIT Kanpur. She pursued her postdoctoral research first at Freie University, Berlin as an Alexander von Humboldt fellow, next at ESPCI, Paris and subsequently as a Marie Curie fellow at University of Cambridge. She joined as an Assistant Professor at IISER Kolkata and is currently working as a Professor at IACS Kolkata. Prof. Dash is a recipient of DST SwarnaJyanti Fellowship, DBT Welcome Trust-IA Fellowships, CRSI bronze medal and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize. She has been recently elected as a fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore. She has published more than 100 publications and has been serving as an editorial advisory member of reputed International Journals. Prof. Dash’s research interests include the structure and function of nucleic acid targets and synthesis of therapeutically important molecules.
